My GGG Grandfather, Joel Shelton, received two land patents in 1826 in Posey TWP. Rush Co. Indiana. In 1830 he received another. First son David, my GG Grandfather received one in 1834. Joel & Elizabeth(Phillips)Shelton were the parents of three sons & eight daughters. Daughter Anna married William Haywood, October 26, 1834 in Rush Co. They had six children. Daughter Jane, marrried Charles Richard Haywood November 13, 1835 in Rush Co. They moved to Greene County, Indiana & had nine children. The first three, Joel, Elias, & Calvin were in the Civil War. Joel & Calvin were killed in Baton Rouge, Loisiana, & Elias was badely injured. but survived & made it home. Charles & Jane are buried in Smith Cemetery in Greene County, Indiana. Several of their children are buried there also.
