Old 2 room schoolhouse in Homer 1883
We just recently bought an old 2 room schoolhouse in Homer that has been renovated into a house for many years. We are wanting to know more about this school and are planning to do some research with the historical society, etc.,but I am curious to know if there is anyone out there that can tell me anything interesting about this school. The story we were told when we bought the house is that it was built in 1883 (we know this is correct because the date is on the front of the house) and as far as we can tell it was a 2 room schoolhouse. The 2nd floor was added sometime in the 1920's and the school was made into doubles. Some time later, it was made into a large single family home, which it is now.
We have talked to some of the older people in the community, but they don't really seem to know much about the school.I am not sure when the school closed, but I would say that most, if not all, of the people that went to school here are long gone.I would love to hear from anyone whose parent or grandparent may have gone to school here and any information they may know.
Any information would really be appreciated.
