I'm not sure if this is the same family. John is listed as a merchant in the 1850 census, 25 years old. He would be too young to be the son of Jacob and Lydia Baxter, but he might be from an earlier marriage for their son James Baxter. In the 1850 census James is 45 and his wife is 31 so I've been wondering if John might be his son and he was married previously. Also, Jacob had more son's but I don't know anything about them.

If you find that they do connect I have information on Lydia Bell Baxter's family.
