I found this while researching my Randolph Cty., IN. relatives. I thought you might find this interesting or hopefully useful. Darke Cty., Ohio is next door to Randolph Cty., IN
The following listings are taken directly from the Official Roster of the Soldiers of the State of Ohio in the War of the Rebellion, 1861-1866, Akron, 1887. This listing is not intended to imply other Darke Countians didn't serve in other units, nor does this list intend to imply all members of companies listed here were from Darke Co. But the bulk of these individuals were Darke Countians and recruited in Darke Co.
Based solely on the Official Rosters, it is next to impossible to determine which individuals were actually residents of Darke Co. at the time of the war. From a wall of photographs at the Darke Co. Court House which memorialize certain survivors of the War (a display no doubt sponsored by the local GAR chapter), Adele Corbin has determined that certain companies were largely made up of Darke Countians because these companies are named with the photographs. Armed with that list of companies noted with the photographs, copies of the Official Rosters of these units have been obtained. It is these companies which are being committed to ASCII files for mounting here. This is an on-going project and the list will be expanded from time to time with new companies.
Since it is our intention to provide a listing of Darke Countians who served in the Civil War and not regimental histories, the names are being alphabetized in one list noting in which Company and Regiment the individuals served. However, separate regiment and company lists will be mounted for Civil War buffs (see below). When it is possible to do so, we are providing the military careers of individuals as they were promoted through the ranks (same name, different rank or in other companies). Spellings of names are exactly as we find them in the Official Rosters even if we know from other sources that the name was misspelled by the officials. The DATE is the date of first enlistment. The AGE is that given by the individual at first enlistment. Various letter codes are being used to provide some of the information given in a 'REMARKS' column of the Official Rosters. A "ROLL OF HONOR" listing those known to have died during the War may be compiled at a later time.
