My John Q. A. Shepherd, military records tells that he was born in Reeys,or Reegs, Putnam county Indiana, His brother only tells Putnam county Indian. 1880 census of Christian county MO. tell that his Mother was born in Ohio and his Father was born in Penn. 1850 census has John and James living with Amos and Elizabeth Embree in Henry county Iowa. I have the marriage license of Amos and Elisabeth Embree, They married in Putnam county Indiana. The Embree family list Elisabeth married to a ? ? ? Shepherd but they don't have her maiden name. She could be a Shepherd but the Asa Shepherd family she is listed as part of just doesn't fit. They tell that she was born in 1824 and the Elisabeth that married Amos Embree says she was born in 1815 in Ohio. She tells the same thing in all census and it's on the her stone.
