Hello Dale,
I live in central Illinois, but have made two trips to Putnam Co. Courthouse. They have excellent records and the folks there try to be most helpful. I did a lot of research into the Tract Books and learned much to support our suspected thoughts on ancestors.

Do you know where John Q. came from? His parents? Do you know where in Putnam he settled? The reason I ask is that many of those settling in Franklin Twp. were from Claiborne Co., TN. Don't be discouraged by the possible marriage of a 15 yr. old. My great great grandmother was born in 1830 Indiana and married at age 14 or 15. Her family was Miller from the aforementioned TN area. Her husand and she migrated to Iowa around 1849-50. Left there and went back down into TN.

The Putnam Co. records on the web have helped me some. There is a lot of information on the Montgomery County Library website, but most relates to that county, but at the library they have a "plat book" of the early land records of Putnam Co. Have you reviewed the BLM records on line for Putnam Co., IN?

My Whitehead famly is from Putnam - originally from Claiborne Co., TN. He is Robert Whitehead who served with George Rogers Clark and received land bounty in IN. There is a Shepherd who also served. Let me know if I can help you. Paula
