BLAKE AND BURKES IN PUTNAM, 1870 AND BEFORE
Posted by: Cristy Culp (ID *****0517) Date: May 24, 2007 at 06:08:14

Trying to find out info on the following folks:
Jesse Blake, on the 1870 Census living in Russell Twp., age 71; male; unknown marital status; living alone; farmer; b. PA

Marion Burkes, on the 1870 IL census in Russellville; b. IN; age 26; male; wife Catharine and children.

I have a book 'Puss and Boots' handed down thru my Shuee/Shuey line. On the inside cover is written 'Presented to Marion Burkes by Jesse Blake on January 1, 1871 - 72 yrs.' My lines in Putnam Co. are Grider, Shuey and Etchison, but I have no idea who Burkes and Blake are and why this book has been in the family for so long. There might be a connection with these two people, but I can't find it. Does anyone know these surnames?????
