I have suspected the marriage to Peggy Ball before, but where is she from. I think it was on daughter Margaret's Census she states her mother to be born in Maryland.
"Dred" had 5 children; 4 of which I know their names:
1. Elizabeth b. 1815 NC and d. 17 April 1877 Adair County, IA. She married William Thomas. And if I remember right, a child of theirs marries into a Godden line (which is another spelling sometimes for Godwin). They had 12 children.
2. an unknown daughter born about 1820 (based on 1830 and 1840 Census reportings).
3. Joshua Godwin b. 1824 NC (he just seems to disappear, unless he goes back to NC for that is the only place I find one near his age in the Census).
4. Margaret Godwin (my ancestor) b. 1828 NC and d. before 1900, probably in Colorado. She married Unknown Sabin and had 5 children, some staying in IA and others going on to CO.
5. Scion/Cyon Godwin b. 1831 NC
Census Schedules:
1. 1850 Indiana Federal Census, Putnam County, Washington Twp., p. 577 (with father)
2. 1880 Colorado Federal Census, Larimer County, Livermore, Precinct 5, ED 70, Sheet 7 B (spelled Cyon Gadwin; with sister Margaret Sabin)
Unsure if this is our Cyon, but looks promising. From the Denver Land Office Records, 1862-1908 (online):
