Thanks for your reply. Based on the following census information, I do not believe the John Alexander 12 Jan 1838 marriage to Sarah Michael is "my" John Alexander, nor is the 1870 census data you forwarded regarding John and wife Sue. I am searching to know of John Alexander's family - wife, children, parents, birth location, date of death, place of burial and when/where/how he may have come to the US. Family notes indicate he was born in Scotland about 1815. The earliest record I have found is the 1840 census of Parke County, IN showing John Alexander in a household consisting of 1 male age 20-30 [John?], 1 female 20-30 [wife?], and 1 male under age 5 [son, William L.]; 1850 census shows John, 35, born Ohio, wife Sarah, 32, born NC and sons William L., 12, and "JRP" [John Robert Alexander?], 9; 1860 John,45, born OH, wife Sarah, 41 born NC, sons William,21, John R., 19,born OH; 1870 census shows John, 54, born OH, Sarah, 44, born NC and Carrie B., 9, born IN, an adopted daughter; 1880 shows John, 65, grave digger, born OH, father born PA, mother born KY, living with Cary B. "adopted daughter", a school teacher, born NY. This 1880 information gives new data regarding John's parents, so I do not believe this is the correct John Alexander despite the adopted daughter, Carrie/Carry. So, John Alexander "my" John Alexander probably died between 1870 and 1900 in Rockville. Family notes indicate his "death in Rockville and burial NW 1/2 Block #11." I had neither the date of William L. Alexander's marriage not his wife's maiden name - great help! Is the source Indiana marriages 1802-1892 available online? Thanks for any help you can provide.
