"JAMES S. DROKE was born in Sullivan County, Tennessee, June 5, 1834, and at the age of fifteen came to this county with his parents, whom he left at the age of twenty-one, and began farming on his own account. He was married, in 1859, to MISS MINERVA BAGWELL, a native of Parke County, Indiana, born March 8, 1833, and daughter of WILLIAM and ELIZABETH (MARTIN) BAGWELL, of North Carolina; were married in Parke County, and there reared a family of thirteen children, and who died in this county at the age of seventy-two and seventy-eight years respectively. MR. and MRS. DROKE became the parents of five children - WILLIAM D., ALICE, MARY E., JOHN F. and AMANDA J. Of these, only MARY E. and AMANDA J. are living. MR. DROKE, on his marrying, located on the home farm, where he remained eight years and then removed to Cass County, this State (Indiana), where he lived two years, and then came to his present farm of sixty-eight acres. He and wife are members of the United Presbyterian Church."
