John Hudson of Owen County Indiana 1818 - ???

I am looking for information on the family of John Hudson, said to have been the first settler of Montgomery Township in Owen County, Indiana. In particular, I am trying to verify the names of his wife and children and the dates and places of death and burial for John and his wife. John Hudson, said in local histories to have been "of Tennessee," purchased government land in Owen County in October 1816 and moved there in 1818. He built the first frame house in the township in 1825.

I believe that the following are among his children: William Hudson who married Lucinda Couchman 20 Sept. 1832, Thomas Hudson who married Sarah Jane Fain on 6 Feb 1834, Mary Jane Hudson who married William A. Dunning on 21 Sept 1837, Joanna (Ann) Hudson who married Ninian S. Couchman on 11 Apr. 1837, Ellen Hudson who married Uriah A. Hester, and my g,g,grandmother Nancy L. Hudson who married John Erwin Newton 22 Mar 1854 in Larissa, Texas.

A John Hudson, age 62, born in Tennessee appears in the 1850 census for Wayne Township, District 84 with wife S. O. Hudson, age 55, born in Virginia and daughter N. L. Hudson, age 16 born in Indiana. Can anyone document that this is the same John Hudson of the first paragraph above? Does anyone know what the initials S. O. stand for? A logical assumption is that the O is for either Ophelia or Octavine since Nancy L. Hudson Newton's daughter, my great grandmother, was named Ophelia Octavine Newton.
