Last Democr.Sheriff in Orange Co <1908?
The following bit of bio of Moses Thompson, originally from N Ireland by way of Mercer Co KY and Wash Co IN to Carroll Co IN, was written by William Ambrose Thompson for his children, starting in 1908.
QUESTION IS: Does anyone recognize a Thompsonwho was the last Democratic sheriff before 1908.
If there was a Demo sheriff that wasn't a Thompson, who might that have been.Since he was a half-brother, perhaps his last name wasn't Thompson.
"Great-Grandfather Moses Thompson moved to Washington County in the year 1810 (or 1811 or 1812).He moved into the old fort at that place, and later settle on the land that is now known as the old Bakus farm.Later he moved to Carroll County, Indiana, and Grandfather John C. Thompson, who was then married, went with him, and while there, several children were born to them, but know that they are back (near Salem in Washington Co IN) and that Father is born as stated above.Great-grandfather (Moses) died in Carroll County and was buried there.I know but little concerning the remainder of the family, except that other children followed to America, and that one of the half-brothers settle and died in Orange County, Indiana. The last Democratic Sheriff of that county for may years.Drank himself to death, I have heard."
Any clues on the biographies of the sheriffs of this county? Thanks.
