Looking to find more information on my 2nd Great Grandfather, Joseph Gill born 1800-1804, possibly VA. Believe that he was married prior to marrying my 2nd Great Grandmother, Julia Griffin (Thompson, Dwyer, Crothers). They were married 13 Nov 1876 in Parke County, Indiana and he died 08 Dec 1880.

I believe that he was married to and Elizabeth who was born 05 Jan 1816, unknown where and died 11 Mar 1868 in Parke County, Indiana. Her tombstone lies in the same proximity as Julia's in Miller Cemetery. Her tombstone says that she is the wife of Joseph Gill.

Joseph it appears does not have a tombstone but it is believed that he is also buried in Miller Cemetery.

Only conclusive evidence of him is the 1870 Census which says that he is 68 and a Lock Tender, born in VA and living in Liberty Twp, Parke, Indiana
The 1880 census also lists him in Liberty, Parke, Indiana and he is 76, Farmer born Ohio and looks like his parents were from Eng. He is listed with Julia who is 48, Stepson Joseph Cruthers, stepdaughter Mary, Stepson Elbert and son Deverter who is 3 years of age. all born in Indiana. Deverter is my Great Grandfather.

Found a small article about his death and said that he was over 80 years of age and was a native of Virginia, So maybe he was from Ohio, Virginia(?)

Was Joseph's real name Gill or not, I have wondered. I have taken a DNA test on my Dad (who has since past) and so far not hits to make a difference. Did test 12 with a man with the last name Ghele. but he has not went farther on his, I have taken my Dad's much farther.

Would really love to pin down who he was before 1870 and find out who his parents were and if he had siblings.
