This just gets more and more confusing, and I know you think so, too!

In the 1870 Knox Co., KY census I find Lewis Wilbourn with son Andrew, 21 (who supposedly married Margaret Phipps), daughter "Selah", age 20, and 3 more children. Nearby is Delly (Delilah) Phipps with daughter Margaret, age 22.

OK, then in 1880 Knox Co. there is James Gains, age 43, wife Celia Gains, age 33, son John McL., age 13, dtr. Sarah M.J., age 12, son James, age 7, dtr. Annie, age 4, and son Robert, age 1. Also Enoch Wilburn, brother-in-law. It looks to me like this James Gains was married previously and had the two older children, or could Sarah M.J. possibly be Malinda Jane??

See, I thought "Tal" could have been "Tol", short for Toliver, and he had an affair with Celia, but they weren't even in the same place, so that doesn't appear possible. However, I did not find Toliver and his family in the 1870 census in Indiana (where they were in 1860 and 1880).

I'll do some more looking and if I come up with anything, I'll be in touch.

Sandra
