My grandfather, William Anton Heath, did not have a birth certificate. He celebrated March 19, 1893 as his birth date. But the 1900 census in Iroquois County, IL listed his birth as April 1, 1894. This gives credence to the belief that his father, William Heath, and Mary Elnora Leuthart got married in 1893. She lost a child, and it was a tradition at that time to name the next child, if the same sex, the same as the one that died. It might be that the child who died was born on March 19, 1893, although I don't know why he would not have observed the 1894 birth date. Anyway, thank you for responding.
