If the names check out -- which they look real promising. I can hopefully search court records to determine why Mary Alice was considered an "orphan."

I do have some information that states there was a "marital disunion" of Mary Alice's parents when she was 4 - which prompted her to go live with Grandmaw. Evidently, the disunion wasn't permanent since you found Thomas and Melvina living together in 1880 and also with a son - John.

You have helped me immensely. Thank you again.
