Thomas!

O.K. - How did you find this??? Is this from the 1900 census??

I hadn't looked that far - with Mary Alice's family.

Then - I am assuming you looked at the 1880 census to see where Melvina Smith was living - and found her - living with Thomas.

**Just so you will know - in the 1850 census of Union County (Mary Alice's birth county) - I find a Thomas Smith with a birth year of abt.1829 who is married to an "Ellen" Smith with no children. The census was done on October 28, 1850 - so technically Mary Alice should have been born and should have been counted. But, she would have been only one month old. If the census taker got the info from a neighbor - the record may not have reflected her birth - or the correct name (which happened back then). The 1850 census gives Thomas' birthplace as "Ohio" -

The last little bit that you gave me - "Thomas H. Smith 52, TN works on farm - - came from where?? It looks like there was a son too?? -

Please feel free to e-mail me with any further info. This has been great!

Brigette
