Thanks for the tip on the burials; I have done much of that and I did find Everett's place of rest, to use the common euphemism.

I believe he was not literally an orphan, but had a poor attitude or low self-esteem, maybe caused by death of his mother or divorce. He definitely had problems. He was moody, from what I understand. I never met him personally, so there are no memories of that sort to use in understanding how to find his records.

But volunteers like yourself have made a difference and have offered me hope that I will understand someday the enigmatic behavior of my family forebears. Just need to keep digging.

By the way, you may be intereseted to know that one county in Indiana has free marriage lookup from 1813; that is the site I used. It is not statewide, I know, so has limited value. But for someone searching any and all venues, it is fine. I have spent hours going through birth records and all sorts of odd documents. It has given me some better udnerstanding of how fragile and difficult life was before the current century. Some things are better now, and some things were better then.
