It must be very frustrating. You might also look for Woods burials in Douglas county, in case the parents both died there. The Eastern Nebraska Genealogical Society may have that (do a google search) or you could try the Douglas county Genweb). Either both parents died, or Hattie died and the father abandoned the kids. Sounds like they didn't know their father at all or something bad happened. Interesting that they learned his trade, though.

The IN marriage indexes are on Ancestry.com and you have to have a subscription to search them.
