James Harvey Jones, of Linn county, was born in Virginia 3/26/1826. His parents moved from Virginia to Indiana in 1838. He taught school when a young man, and graduated in medicine at the Cincinnati Medical School in 1850. He married Rachel Bray in 1850. He went to Iowa in 1855, and from there to Linn county, Kansas, in May 1857. Here he practiced medicine for nearly 40 years. His present home is in Knoxville, Ark. 11/8/1859, he was elected a member of the territorial legislature of 1860, and on 12/6/1859, a member of the first state house of representatives.
