ELIZABETH HENDERSON HAMILTON, daughter of JOHN and DELILAH HENDERSON, was born in Lawrence County, Indiana, April 4, l844. She came to Iowa with her parents in l854 and located in Hamilton Township, Decatur County, two and one-half miles north of Pleasanton, where her mother died in l864, and her father in l884. She was one of seven children, of whom two are left to mourn the loss of a dear sister, namely, MOSES HENDERSON, of Indiana, and JAMES K. HENDERSON, of Davis City, Iowa.
On the l2th day of August, l866, she was married to FRANCIS M. HAMILTON. To this union were born six children, MRS. CHARLOTTE STUTEVILLE, MRS. DELILAH STUTEVILLE, of Davis City, HARRISON HAMILTON and MRS. SUSAN ANDREW, of Decatur, MELVIN, of High Point, and JOHN, of Los Angeles, California. All were with their mother in her last days of suffering, excepting JOHN. His last visit with the parents was during the sickness and death of the father.
In the close chain of relationship she leaves two brothers, six children, nineteen grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
Mother HAMILTON early in life became a follower of the meek and lowly Nazarene and cast her lot with the brethren of the Baptist Faith. She has lived a life of loving sacrifice to her church, loved ones and neighbors, and will always be remembered in connection with those deeds of kindness as "AUNT BETTY."
She departed this life at seven o'clock in the evening of December l4, l9l6. Rev. G.W. Smith, of Humeston, conducted the funeral service at Riverview Church at one o'clock Saturday and used for his text, I Timothy 4-8. For bodily exercise profiteth little, but Godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.
The body was laid to rest in the Hamilton Cemetery by the side of the devoted companion who fell asleep June 25, l9l6. They lacked only until August l2, of living out fifty years of wedded life together, but after six months' separation, they are again together in death.
