Percy, I would LOVE to have a copy of that letter from Osiah to his brother Samuel!! Thank you so very much for the kind offer. I will contact you privately with my address.
What a small world! Samuel Palmer lived in Dalton, Ohio-- a tiny little farm community where my cousins now live! We had no idea whatsoever that our ancestors had lived there a century before. Wait till I write to the cousins to tell them they could be living on the very land once owned by our family. Unbelievable.
I knew that the infant son of Osiah Palmer was named Charles (as he was listed on the 1870 census), but I did NOT know his middle name was Lee! That is VERY interesting, because there is a family story that the Palmers had owned the land that is now Arlington Cemetery, and had sold it to Robert E. Lee after the Civil War. I wonder if that is how that baby received the middle name of Lee? The timing would make sense.
Again, thank you VERY much for contacting me! I will send write you privately immediately. Best regards, Kathy
