Adolphus Brown (1840 - 1880) of IN and IL.

We are looking for information about the ancestors and descendents of Adolphus A. Brown (1840-1880). Any information that you can provide about him and his wife Edna Jeanette Chambers (1850-1932) and their children, grandchildren and other descendents would be appreciated. Please also provide corrections to any information below that might be inaccurate.

Adolphus Augustus Brown was born 20 Sep. 1840 in Jefferson Co. Indiana, the son of George W. Brown and Delilah C. Bishop who were married on 29 Sep. 1831 in Jefferson Co. Indiana. Delilah C. Bishop was born circa (1800-1804), the daughter of Thomas Bishop and his first wife Delilah Tumelson. We are looking for more information about the parents and other ancestors of Adolphus Brown.

In 1850 and 1860, Adolphus Brown is living with his grandfather Thomas Bishop in Scott Co. Indiana. This suggests that his parents may have died young. Does anyone have the death dates and burial locations for George and Delilah Brown?

Does anyone have information on Adolphus Brown’s siblings? Adolphus had a sister, Sarah Brown, who was born Oct. 1842 in Indiana. In 1860, she is living with her grandfather Thomas Bishop in Scott Co. Indiana. Sarah M. Brown married (1st) William A. Harrod 6 Jul. 1862 in Scott Co. Indiana. In 1870, she and her son are living with her grandfather, Thomas Bishop, in Macoupin Co. IL which suggests that her husband William Harrod died prior to 1870. Did Adolphus Brown have any other brothers and sisters?

Adolphus Brown enlisted on 4 Oct. 1861 in Scott Co. Indiana as a Private in Co. C of the 38th Indiana Infantry Regiment. He enlisted as a 1st Lt. on 16 Feb. 1865 in Austin Scott Co. Indiana in Co. F 145th Indiana Infantry Regiment. He was promoted to Captain 20 Aug. 1865. He was mustered out of Co. F 145th Indiana Infantry Regiment on 21 Jan. 1866 at Cuthbert GA.

Circa 1867, Adolphus Brown married Edna Jeanette Chambers. Does anyone have the exact marriage date and location? Edna Chambers was born 17 Mar. 1851 in Kent, Warren Co. Indiana and is said to have died 9 Apr. 1935 in Orange, Orange Co. CA. (Please confirm.)

In 1870, Adolphus Brown, retired merchant, age 29, is living in Township 7 Range 8 of Macoupin Co. IL with his wife and two children.

Adolphus A. Brown graduated from St. Louis Medical College on 12 Mar. 1875.

On 16 Oct. 1878 he applied for a military pension as an invalid.

On 15 Jun. 1880, Adolphus Brown, physician, is living in Old Ripley Bond Co. IL with his wife Edna and four children.

Edna Jeanette Chambers Brown married Thomas Floyd 10 Mar. 1881 in Madison Co. IL. This suggests that Adolphus Brown died between 15 Jun. 1880 and 10 Mar. 1881. Does anyone have his exact death date and location?

In Oct. 1904, his widow Edna J. Brown files for a pension based on Adolphus A. Brown’s military service. Edna Chambers Brown Floyd married Samuel P. Kane circa 1907. Has anyone found a record of this marriage? In 1910, Samuel and Edna Kane are living in Valley Township Scott Co. KS. In 1920 and 1930 they are living in Orange CO. CA.

Adolphus and Edna Brown had the following children:

a. Willis Idon Brown, born circa 1868 in Macoupin Co. IL.

b. Thomas Aquilla Brown, born 6 Apr. 1870 in Macoupin Co. IL.

c. George Adolphus Brown, born 21 Sep. 1872 in Bunker Hill Macoupin Co. IL; died 6 Dec. 1872.

d. Grace Leontine Brown, born 21 Sep. 1873 in Worden Madison Co. IL.

e. Harry Hildreth Brown was born 15 Nov. 1875 in Old Ripley, Bond Co. IL. He was named after Henry Hildreth who graduated with Adolphus from the St. Louis Medical College in 1875.

We would greatly appreciate any information that you can provide about the ancestors of Adolphus Brown (1848-1910) and his wife Edna Jeanette Chambers (1850-1932). Also, and information that you can provide concerning their children, grandchildren and other descendents would also be appreciated. Please also provide corrections to any information above that might be inaccurate.
