I would like to know if there might be anyone in the Portland area who can help me fill in some missing information on my GGG-Grandparents’ family. William C. Louck and Catherine Spahr were married in Greene Twp on February 8, 1866. [William was the son of Adam Louck, Jr. and Elizabeth Crisler, and Catherine was the daughter of John Oliver Spahr and Experience Hildreth.] They were the parents of five children; two of whom I can find no information, and I suspect they died young and are buried in the Portland area.
William and Catherine’s children were:
1]. Mary Elizabeth Louck, born in Portland on October 17, 1866. She was married to William Henry Bowen, son of Thomas “Jefferson” Bowen and Martha Melvina [“Patsy”] Powell, on April 9, 1866 on her parents’ farm just outside of Cairo, Hall County, Nebraska. She died on July 18, 1949 in Longpine, Brown County, Nebraska, and was laid to rest in Bayard Cemetery, Bayard, Morrill County, Nebraska. [William and Mary were my GG-Grandparents.]
2]. James “Louis” Louck, born in Portland on September 9, 1868. He was married to Maud E. Buller, daughter of Ethan Buller and Arabell [maiden name unknown to me], on February 4, 1924 in Council Bluffs, Pottawattamie County, Iowa. Maud died on November 9, 1948 in Grand Island, Hall County, Nebraska, and was laid to rest in Evergreen Cemetery, Loup City, Sherman County, Nebraska. James appears to have gone by his middle name, and was living with his mother at the time of the 1900 census. Given the date of his marriage to Maud, he either remained single until late in life, or he had previously been widowed. I have no idea where he went after his wife’s death.
3]. BESSIE PEARL LOUCK, born in Portland sometime between 1869 and 1880 [?]. Nobody knows anything about her, other than she is mentioned in her mother’s obit. I suspect she probably died young, and might well be buried in the Portland area.
4]. VIOLA M. LOUCK, with the same information as given for Bessie.
5]. Cora “Ella” Louck, born in Portland on August 10, 1873. I do not have a date or place of marriage for her, but she was married to Andres B. Thomsen. She died in Sherman County, Nebraska, and was laid to rest in Evergreen Cemetery, Loup City, Sherman County, Nebraska. Cora was also known by her middle name, and is listed as Ella C. in her mother’s obit.
I would be most interested in finding any information on the births of all five children, and would like to find out if Bessie and Viola are, in fact, buried in the Portland area. I would be more than happy to pay for copies of any records that would help confirm this information!
