Obituary: Mrs. Mary (Hamilton) Holmes ~ wife of Daniel Holmes

MRS. MARY HOLMES, nee HAMILTON, was born January 15th,1823, and died at the home of her daughter, MRS. M. ARNOLD, in Benton Township, Lucas County, Iowa April 24th, 1908, aged 85 years, 3 months and 9 days. She was one of a family of eight children, of whom all are deceased.
On Dec. 2nd, 1841, she was married to DANIEL HOLMES, in Jackson County,Indiana. To this union were born eight children, three sons and five daughters: OSCAR F., deceased; DELIAH H. HONEYWOOD, deceased; LEONIDAS H.,
WILLIAM H., ERADNA L. PIERCE, SARAH A. PARSONS, DONETA A. ARNOLD and IDA N. MCKINLEY. All but two that survive her are here to mourn her loss.
In 1851 she and her husband moved to Illinois and settled in Warren Co., and about the middle of September, 1854 removed to Iowa. She has seventeen grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren.
In her childhood she was baptized in the Presbyterian Church. She was a
loving and cheerful mother, a kind and helpful wife, a good neighbor and a
consistent helper in the time of need. The funeral services were conducted
by Rev. Stover and interment was made at the Waynick Cemetery.
