Dowden, Lucas, Harrell, Harrod, Shipman

These families are all tied together through multiple marriages, staring in the early 1800's. In fact, nearly all came to Jackson County from Surrey County, North Carolina, and other parts before that. My 7th Great grandfather, Zephaniah Dowden, SR., was part of the original migration, coming to what is now Jackson County in 1807/8.

Does anyone have a family history that tells the circumstances that banded these families together and took them to the Indiana territory? I find it very interesting that these families joined and remained close after arrival.
