Turner, Cavet, Mahan, Woodson families of Hendricks Co, IN
Moses Cavet was in the Hendricks County, Indiana census in 1830. At that time, he was between 70 and 79 years old, putting his birth year at approximately 1755. He probably died between the 1830 census and the 1840 census.
Moses had a son Moses (b. 1800 TN - d. 11 Mar 1884 Hendricks Co, IN) who married Rhoda Turner in Wayne County, Kentucky on 22 Feb 1821. His daughter was Anna (b. 1807 TN - d. betw 1870 and 1880 probably in Hendricks Co, IN) who married Rhoda's brother, James Turner, in Hendricks Co, IN on 6 Sep 1831.
Hendricks County historical information lists Moses as having immigrated to the area from Kentucky in the late 1820s. It appears that he (and family) were in Wayne County, KY prior to this and lived in Tennessee before that.
The father of James Tuner (1798-1885) and his sister Rhoda Turner (1800-1884) was George Washington Turner, born about 1778 in Virginia, died prob bef 1840 in Hendricks Co, IN.His son James was born in Pulaski Co, KY, which was formed into Wayne Co, KY and from 1811 to 1830, records put him in Wayne County. He might have been descended from the Beford County, Virginia Turners. One notable Turner who migrated from Bedford to Wayne was the Revolutionary War soldier, James Turner, whose pension application lists his nephew, a Dabney.
George Washington Turner's other children were possibly Harriet Louvina Turner (1799-1836), Job Turner (1802-1852), Mary (Polly) Ann Turner (1808-1887), George W Turner, Jr (1811-1881), and Elijah Turner (1812-1890).Other than Harriet, these Turners followed the same migration path, Wayne County, KY to Hendricks Co, IN to the Taylor Co, IA area.Harriet married Jonah or Josiah S. Winn and migrated to Crawford, Arkansas.Job married Isabel West in 1823 in Wayne, KY.Mary (Polly) Ann married Isaac R. West 15 Sep 1825 in Wayne Co, KY.George W. Jr. married Catharine Faught.Elijah married Mary Mallet. The West and Faught families had farms near the Turners' in Hendricks County.
James Turner and Anna Cavett/Cavet had the following children:Job Turner (1832-1859), Rhoda Turner (b. 1833), John C. Turner (1834-1914), George W. Turner (1836-1924), James Marion Turner (1837-1914), Elizabeth Marion Turner (b. 1838), Hannah Turner (b. 1840), Moses C Turner (b. 1845), Mary A Turner (1848-1886), and Mildred I Turner (b. 1850).The George W. Turner in this paragraph married Indiana Virginia Mahan. Indiana was born 30 Jan 1837 in Hendricks County, Indiana to parents John Stephen Mahan, Jr and Nancy Woodson. She died 8 May 1920 in Bedford, Taylor Co, IA.Her father died the year she was born and her mother died when she was 13 years old.She was in the 1850 census in the home of her brother, Woodson.
I am interested in connecting with others researching these families. Some questions:Who were George W. Turner's (1778-c.1840) parents?Who was his wife? Was Harriet Louvina one of his children? Are there bible records or something solid listing his children?Who was Moses Cavett's wife?Who were his parents? If he had other children, aside from Moses Jr. and Anna, who were they?Who were Moses Jr's children?I have listed with question marks Samuel S. Cavett (1823-1894) and John E. T. Cavett (1824-1848).
