Hi,In my opinion I have looked at the census records on these two men and Think they are the same man.In 1850 John gives his middle name as M and also that he was born about 1820 in NC and William gives his middle name as M and b. about 1820 in NCHowever, I did look up Jesse Garrison on the 1830 census and he is not there in Indiana that I could find yet. but he is on the 1840 census with one son who is between 20 and 30 which is probably not William as William is listed right below him and the ages of the adults match William and Lucretia but the one in 1840 listed as being born between 15/20 could be John.
I only live about a half hour away from the court house in Hendricks co.If the weather is nice this week I will make a trip to it and see if I can find a copy of the marriage record and a death date for William,What I am wondering is, is there a possibliy that William might have been away serving in the army or something and they thought he was dead and then he returned and found Lucretia living with John and left again. The reason I say this is becasue I found a William Garrison born in NC living in Leavenworth co. Kansas with a wife name Mary J. but his two oldest kids were born in Indiana.and they are of an age to have been born before John and Lucretia had gotten married in 1847.thats not to say its the same william but the age is close to the one in Indiana.
But I will try to go as early this week as I can and stop by the genealogy library there as well and check on the death date of both William and Lucretia.Since they lived in Stilesville, more than likely she is buried there also.Sue
