Fawkner or Faulkner, Sears families
Searching for anyone with knowledge of Faulkner/Fawkner family of Hendricks County, 1830s to 1860. The 1850 census listed three children – George S. Faulkner (11), Cyrus W. Faulkner (13) and John E. Faulkner (15) living with parents, William B. Sears (37) and Ann B.Sears (42). Ann B. Sears is believed to be Ann B. Fawkner, who married Wesley Sears in 1841. Four Sears children, born from 1842 to 1849, were also listed in the family: Richard (8), Jeptha (5), Marshal (3) and Elvira (9 months). Next door was James C. Faulkner (21) and wife Elizabeth, believed to be Elizabeth Sears. County records list the marriage of James C. Fawkner and Elizabeth Jane Sears in 1848.
My best theory is that the three Faulkner children in the Sears household belonged to Ann B. Sears from a previous marriage to an unknown Mr. Fawkner/Faulkner. The James C. Faulkner next door may also be a son of Ann. I hope to identify the father of these Faulkner children. One possibility is a John C. Fawkner, who bought land within a mile of the “Sears Graveyard” in 1831.
Please note, although the census enumerator recorded the name as “Faulkner,” marriage records suggest the correct spelling of the family name is “Fawkner.” Cyrus, George and James C. used the name “Fawkner” when enlisting in the Civil War.
