Here in Parke County a common name is Hetrick. Could this be the name you are researching. As to the drowning, in order to drown by way of Illinois one would have to be around the Terre Haute area. Here the Wabash splits Indiana from Illinois. The wabash near the Danville, Ill area is located inside of Indiana. Besides checking with the Danville, Illinois paper, you might also contact the Vigo County Public Library, in Terre Haute, Indiana. Finding information like this isn't easy. I know because around 1910 my great uncle drowned in the wabash south of Terre Haute, and sometimes in the 1950's a distant cousin drowned in the wabash around Montezuma, Indiana.

I hope this can help you with your search.
