Ringo Family in Wayne Co.

John Peters Ringo, of Johnny Ringo the gunfighter was born in Centre township on 5-3-1850. Johnny was the oldest son of 5 children born to Martin Ringo and Mary Peters. Martin Ringo left Wayne co for MO in 1846 and enlisted in Co C, 1st Regiment, of Doniphan's Missouri Mounted Infantry in the Mexican War.He was dischared on 6-21-1847. He married Mary Peters in Clay Co, MO on 9-5-1848. Martin and Mary moved back to Wayne Co, where his sister; Elvira Ringo. Elvira Ringo, b. 4-5-1816, married John R. Funk on 12-6-1832. John and Elvira had 8 children all born in Indiana.
Martin Ringo & Mary Peters' two oldest children were born in Wayne Co: Johnny and Martin Albert Ringo: b. 1-28-1854 when they lived in Washington, Wayne Co, Ind. They later moved to Gallatin, Daviess Co, MO, where their 3 daughters, Fanny Fern, Mary Enna and Mattie Bell Ringo were born. Martin, Mary and the children left MO in 1864 for California by wagon train. Martin was accidentaly killed near Deer Creek, WY. Mary and the children continued to CA and the rest is history.
