Dear Lisa, I think I might shed some light on the Grant Co. Orphan's Home and Industrial Training School. This was from monies of estate of Jesse Johnson, gr.gr.grandunclebrother of my gr.gr. grandfather James Johnson. Jesse's Will instructed nephew, Solomon Johnson to turn the entire estate into trust and the building was to be constructed and operated on the interest of said estate. This was about 1914, after Jesse's death June 17,1914. I grew up in Marion, attended Washington Elementary & Jr. High ,then old Marion High School on Hill St., 1955.The home was located on Old Quarry Road, northerly up Highland Ave., near Wabash Ave. and Catholic School .It was closed by the County Commissioners in the 70's after I had moved away to northern Indiana. There was residue of the original trust which was swallowed by Co. Commissioners and there was no contest able to be initiated because they were able to have records sealed by Indianapolis Judge. They also sold building and land later the building was razed and now new owners have built over original home. The records would be with the Count, and administrator of trust-Marion National Bank.(I don't know for sure if it is still under same name, as I have not visited extensively since my Mother passed away in 1994). I would think that they sealed all the records of those they housed. I hope this helps you. I found your request by accident, looking for Gillespies of Grant Co. My major lines are Snyders/Johnsons of Grant Co. and Townsends/Miles's/Shields/Mills/Casterlines/Saxons, of Blackford Co.Will try and find some of the news articles at the time of closing of the home, it has been a while since I have done much work on Johnsons, most of my line died out by 1955.
