From reprint of Grant County Atlas: "In August of the same year, 1829, William Case, from Preble County, OH came and selected what is now the Heal farm, just in the edge of Delaware County. When Case moved, in October of the same year, he found his land formally possessed by Mr. Heal. Mr. William McCormick granted him the priviledge of moving into his cabin until he could find a farm to suit him. Case located, in a short time, upon the farm where his son Elijah is now living." (Would be near where the present-day town of Matthews [New Cumberland] is located - Section #3.
Elijah Case was born in Ohio and was the first settler in Jefferson Township in 1829. (Another reference lists Wm. Case as the first settler, also in 1829!)The first birth in Jefferson Township was that of Justina Case, born to William and Mary Case, in 1830.
The New Cumberland Lodge, No.383, IOOF, was built in 1871 and instituted 21 December 1871 - one of the charter members was J.T.Case. Map of Marion shows a saw-mill owned by I.Case, located on Nebraska Street, between 8th. & 9th, Street.
Wish there was more info to send you! Best of luck searching!
