Many researchers had questions answered and help given by Ernie over the years. He was dedicated to maintaining the old cemeteries of Gibson and led putting tombstones upright and rereading many of the older ones.

Ernie was a descendant of Joseph & Mary (Hamilton) WOODS., Revolutionary soldier from Albemarle VA, Rockbridge, VA, Blount Co, TN and a final home in Gibson County, IN.

Cancer claimed Ernie in August 2008.
