Sorry it took so long to respond to your message, but as I told you in earlier direct correspondence (off the Genforum network) I don't have much information on Sarah Elzina Smiley or her family. The Nancy Mumford response (message 337) to the original query provides some very compelling analysis of historical records regarding Sarah and her family.

I'm posting this on the Genforum network in the hope that someone will see this and provide more information. In addition to the Smiley family, I'm interested in any detail regarding their son John G. Skelton.

I have information on her husband's family as his brother Levi was my great grandfather.

I vaguely remember my father discussing the murder and my recollection is that the family suspected Thomas Montgomery Skelton was guilty. I don't think there was any legal action taken. All of the family records I have are mute on Thomas other than his birth, marriage, and death dates.
