Sharps of Gibson Co., IN

For several years I have been working on my Gibson County Indiana Sharps. I started with some research done by an aunt and have been trying to expand upon it.

My Grandmother Adelma Pearl Sharp married Arthur James Skelton in 1902. Her brothers were Orville Harris and James Osborne Sharp. She was the daughter of Lytle Harris Sharp (1852-1889) and Lydia Florence Knowles (1858-1929). I have a good handle on my Skelton and Knowles ancestors but I am unsure of my Sharps beyond this point.

I believe Lytle’s parents were Harris Sharp (1814-1879) and Demaris Clark (1816-1887). Her name has been spelled many ways. I have found them in several censuses, the last being 1880. Family records/research indicates that Harris’ father was James Sharp and his mother was Agnes Hunter. I have several postings on several forums seeking information about this couple but have had little success. The James and Agnes that the family thought were the parents of Harris were married in Shelby County, KY in 1812.

It has also been suggested that James’ parents were George Sharp and Martha Wyley of the My Lady’s Manor, Baltimore Co., MD Sharps.

I’m posting the additional information regarding my grandmother and her brothers in the hope that someone will recognize them. Any information supporting or refuting the above would be greatly appreciated.
