Tombaugh's book on Newcastle Twp. Cemeteries has some info on the Robert Meredith line. There is a Meredith Cemetery - on south side of SR-25 at 800N and 800E - that's west of Mentone.A note in the text says, "History books tell that Job Meredith and his nephew Peter Meredith came into Newcastle Twp. in August 1836 from Coshocton Co., OH, and erected the first cabin in the township before returning to Ohio for the winter. In Feb. 1837, Job, Peter, their families and Thomas Meredith (brother of Peter) removed from Ohio to Newcastle Twp. and the cabin that was built the summer before.Robert Meredith, another brother of Peter, joined them in 1837...."(page 11)
Robert and wife Elizabeth are buried in Yellow Creek Cemetery, just south of SR-25 on the east side of 825E, between 800N and 700N - old Mack Haimbaugh farm.Robert died 25 Oct, 1888, age 76y-4m-25d.Elizabeth died 21 April, 1896, age 80y-10m-14d.There is a full page of info about the 8 children, etc. - too much to copy here. There are other related pages as well. Please email your address and I'll send copies.
Are you related to Forrest Meredith who lived near Palestine in Harrison Twp., Kosciusko County?
