Albert and/or Martha HOPPER plus MOSER and WALTS families
I am searching for information regarding Albert and Martha HOPPER who were born about 1857/8 and 1859, respectively, in Greenville, Floyd Co. to Hiram (Highram) and Sarah HOPPER.
Sarah was Hiram’s second wife, and was a widow when they were married in 1856. At the time of their marriage, Sarah had three children from her first marriage named Susan (b. abt 1849), Marion (b. abt 1854), and Mary (b. abt 1855) MOSER. Sarah’s first husband’s given name is unknown. Sarah’s maiden name was WALTS or WALZ. Both MOSER and WALTS are fairly prominent family names in Floyd and Harrison Counties.
Sarah (WALTS/MOSER) HOPPER died in late 1860 or early 1861, and Hiram soon married the widow Catherine Brown, who had been a neighbor in Greenville. In the 1860 census, taken shortly before Sarah’s death, she and all five of the children appeared in the HOPPER household, along with children from Hiram’s first marriage. In the 1870 census, however, of the five children in question, only Martha HOPPER, age 11, is still shown as living in the HOPPER household. Her brother Albert, who would have been about 13, is not there, nor are the three children born to Sarah and her first husband. Detailed searches of other online records could not locate any of the four missing children.
It seems likely that after Sarah HOPPER died, the three children from her first marriage may have gone to live with their MOSER or WALTS relatives. Perhaps Albert HOPPER did as well, since no records are available to indicate otherwise.
