George Smith Merritt Married Lucy Rusk and moved to CO from AZ and then to California. The George S. Merritt in Michigan is George Stewart Merritt. George Smith Merritt b. Dec. 12, 1849 Joined the MA Inf. at the age of 14 years and 9 months and spent the early part of the 1870's in Military Service with the Army. He was a railroad Engineer in the mid 1870's and early 1880's and lived in Floyd County, Indiana. His wife was Emma Harriet Beebe b. 1855. He left Bertha with three kids and move around maybe to MI or nothern IN we don't know. He was a Railroad Conductor for the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad and showed up again in CO and AZ. He lived in LA California and died in 1917. His father was Ansil Wheeler Merritt b. 1828. All of the records of his birth and death are in the Fordham Family Bible which is now in CA. So if anyone is searching for George Smith Merritt, There are three of them with the middle initial of "S" We have no record of a divorce from Emma Harriet Beebe.
