OBITUARY -- WILLIAM P. STRONG
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
WILLIAM P. STRONG, in whose memory this sketch was written, the son of WILSON and ELIZA FIANT STRONG, was born February 4, l854, and departed this life Friday evening, November 28, l9l9, aged 66 years, 9 months and 24 days.
He was born at the old STRONG homestead in Waterloo Township, Fayette County, Indiana, and had resided in that immediate neighborhood ever since.
He was united in marriage to MISS NANCY WILLIAMSON in November l875.
On Thanksgiving day, l883, God took his companion to a better world and left him with four little children, two sons and two daughters, bereft of a mother's tender love and care.
One, who is now MRS. CARRIE NELSON, being less than two weeks old.
The other daughter, MRS. MATTIE CALDWELL, was claimed by the death angel, "as a golden sheaf for the garner of the Master", on March 10, l908.
The sons are ROSCOE STRONG, of Connersville, Indiana, and SCOTT STRONG, of Indianapolis, Indiana.
MR. STRONG's second marriage was to MRS. JENNIE GOODWIN and took place in l885. This union was blest with six children, two of whom have preceded the father in death, one having died in infancy and GEORGE, who died March 22, l9l7, having grown to young manhood. The others are EDWARD of Chicago, Illinois; MRS. AGNES BURKE of Connersville, Indiana; MRS. ALICE PROCHT, of Brookville, Indiana, and ROY, who remains at home with the mother. Besides the immediate family he leaves nine grandchildren; one sister MRS. EDWARD WILLIAMSON, of Connersville and one brother, JOHN STRONG, of Fayette County, Indiana, and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his going away.
His health had been failing rapidly for the past year, but he was seriously ill for only a week, being afflicted with tubercular trouble.
In disposition he was very quiet and reserved, but was a good neighbor and was upright and strictly honest in all his dealings with his fellowmen.
While he was not a member of any church he was a firm believer in Christ and only recently had expressed the wish that he might be able to be baptized.
"Sunset and evening star,
And one clear call for me!
And may there be no moaning of the bar,
When I put out to sea,
And such a tide as moving
Seems asleep, too full for sound, and foam
When that which drew from out the boundless deep
Turns again home.
Twilight and evening bell
And after that the dark.
And may there be no sadness
Of farewell when I embark;
For though from out the bourne of time and place
The flood may bear me far,
I hope to see my pilot face to face
When I have crossed the bar."
We wish to extend our sincerest thanks to our many friends and neighbors who so kindly and earnestly assisted us during the sickness and death of our dear husband and father. We also wish to thank Rev. J.T. Shreve and the singers.
