January 21, 1904, a pretty Latin teacher in Bedford High School, from Elkart Indiana, was bludgeoned to dath. This tragic murder was never solved. The year 1904 will be the 100th anniversary of this event. She was the daughter of John C. Schafer, 606 Vistula Street, Elkart, IN. Her father was a real estate agent of that city. She had a sister, Mrs. Frank (Edna) Gross of Chicago. A brother, Milton Schafer of Elkart and another sister, Miss Jeanie Schafer of Elkart. It is a tragedy that this case was never solved. Are there any relatives living in Elkart that might know some details about this event. This was a very famous case that was written about in all the papers.

Maxine Kruse, Lawrence County historian
