Decatur County Journal-Iowa
Thursday, September 6, l9l7

MARY E. DAVIS was born in Dearborn County, Indiana, March 27, l830. She was the daughter of NOAH and SARAH DAVIS. She was one of a family of eight children, four sisters and three brothers. Her brothers all died in the Civil War, only one sister, ELECTA BRAINUM, of St. Petersburg, Florida, survives her.

She was married October 2, l856, in Dearborn County, Indiana, to J.C. JENISON. To this union was born one child, MRS. L.G. JAMISON.

They came to Iowa in l856 locating on a farm in Clarke County. They came to Weldon in l894. Her husband died January l6, l9l0. She died at high noon on August 29, l9l7, after an illness of about seven weeks.

In her long life of 87 years she never had a sick spell. Her death was an ideal one. No pain, no struggle. She just quietly quit breathing. The Bibly says of the Christian, "No plague shall come near thy dwelling". Surely this promise was verified to this Saint of God. She united with the Methodist Church when she was l7 years old, 70 years of living with God.

She talked about her going and was ready. She was truly waiting when her Lord came. She said of her life, "as I think back over my past life I am not conscious that I ever did a wrong."

It was a most beautiful ending of a perfect life. The funeral services were held in the M.E. Church at Weldon and was in charge of her Pastor, Rev. E.J. Laird. Interment was at the Maple Hill Cemetery, Osceola, Iowa.
