1830 Census for Crawford, IN
Posted by: Jane MCguire (ID *****6023) Date: July 13, 2010 at 18:41:19

Why does the 1830 Census for Crawford, IN have several pages of families that list location(s) as "Undistributed, Crawford, IN". This is in Ancestry and Heritage Quest. Then it gives the pinpoint location as being in Lawrence Co, IN. Lawrence was organized as a county in 1818 and never a part of Crawford and, as far as I know, my family never lived in Lawrence. I have other family records that verify Crawford Co. and they were there about 15 to 18 years. So now where did my family and quite a few other families actually live if in "Undistributed"? Ancestry doesn't know - "perhaps it's Indiana Territory" - but not in 1830.

Any help much appreciated.

Jane
