An 1810 deed in the Clark County Kentucky book of deeds vol. 7 pp. 345-346 between Dickey Shepherd and R. B. Semple establishes Dickey's parents as William and Margaret Shepherd of St. Stephen's parish, King and Queen County, Virginia. William Shepherd died ca. 1804. This William Shepherd (Sr.) with his son William Shepherd Jr. were the founders of Shepherd's Methodist Church in St. Stephen's parish.
