Yes I found that Richard and son Richard were in the Cherokee Legion as well.

Richard Sr b abt 1821 NC is a brick wall for all of the researchers in my Holland branch. No one can figure out what happened to Louisa Etta (Bates) Holland after 1870 either.

I presume she must have died before 1880 as no one can find her in the census.

There must be something out there that could help us break through the wall on Richard Holland's (b 1821 NC md Louisa Etta Bates) ancestry.
