Looking for any information on the siblings and parents of Jacob A. Gehring/Gearing and his wife Eva Byrd who were living in Fulton County, Indiana in 1850. The name was spelled Gearing in that census and Jacob was a saddler. Jacob and Eva were both born in Germany; he between 1800 and 1822; she ca. 1805. She is supposed to have died ca. 1848, according to an interview given by her daughter, Catherine (Gehring) Van Blaricom given in her old age, who said her mother died when she was 5, but she was still listed in the 1850 census. (Catherine was born in 1843 in Pennsylvania.)
Based on the 1850 census they had five children; the first four born in Pennsylvania and John born in Indiana. (I have never figured out where in Pennsylvania this family came from despite massive letter writing campaigns.) Susannah born August 30, 1837. She married Joseph Bennett, son of Ira Bennett and Elizabeth Scott, in Fulton County, on October 7, 1853. They lived in neighboring Cass County before moving to Minnesota. They 13 children; the first two born in Cass County. (There was also a Jacob Gehring who was a hotel proprrietor, but I have never discover a relationship.)
Gideon was born ca. 1838. No trace of him has ever been found. However, there was a William Gearing Sueur County, Minnesota, on October 29, 1863. They had 8 children.
Catherine (above)was born April 2, 1843. In LeSueur County, Minnesota, on August 18, 1860, she married Henry D. Van Blaricom, son of John and Nancy (McNamar). They had 6 children and eventually moved to Vernonia, Oregon.
John was born ca. 1846. No trace of him has ever been found.
Following Eva's death Jacob married Christina Miller in Fulton County, on August 1, 1853. They had two children: Sophia and Christina. The mother died in 1859, and baby Christina was raised by the Coorod Metzger family in Fulton County. Sophia was raised by her sister Mary.
Sometime prior leaving Indiana the family experienced a house fire.
Jacob was killed at Redwood Ferry, Minnesota, in 1862, during the Sioux Uprising.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Jean
