GOLDEN WEDDING

Mr. and Mrs. Martin V. Sidener celebrated their golden wedding on New Yearís day at their home on So. Grant Avenue, which has been know in the past as the Hiatt place. Fifty years ago they were joined in marriage at Parkersburg in this county. At that ceremony the groomís best man was Dr. Overton Stone, now of Bloomington, Ind., and the bridesmaid was Mrs. Mary J. McDaniel, who at the present time lives at Jamestown. Mr. And Mrs. Sidener and their attendants of half a century ago were in the receiving line and greeted the large number of guests who came to congratulate the former couple. Mr. and Mrs. Sidener, Dr. Stone and Mrs. McDaniel were given the place of honor at the head of the festal board. Curiously, Mr. Sidener, Dr. Stone and Mrs. McDaniel are all in their seventy-third year, and Mrs. Sidener is in her sixty-eight. All are in good heath and expressed the statement that the occasion was one of the happiest of their lives. Mrs. G.H. Allnut of Parkersburg was another anniversary guest who was present at the ceremony fifty years ago. Mr. Sidener and Dr. Stone have been life long Democrats and both have voted twice for W.J. Bryan and would do so again if opportunity so afforded, they say. Mrs. Sidener and Mrs. McDaniel are Republicans and have been all their lives and would both vote for Teddy Roosevelt for a third time it womanís suffrage prevailed. William M. Reeves, a nephew of Mr. Sidener, was the toast master.
The home was decorated with holly and the (sic) was arranged with pink and white carnations. A reception was held on New Yearís eve and was attended by many more of Mr. And Mrs. Sidenerís friends. They made the recipients of a large number of gifts suitable for the occasion, gold coin in various denominations (there being a number of double eagles) and gold articles of many kinds being presented- Crawfordsville Journal

Note from Janet Price; I am posting this story for others. I am not related to the subjects. This is a reprint from the Crawfordsville Journal located in Montgomery Co. Indiana.
