Webb, Branham, Bennington
Any assistance from Webb or other family researchers appreciated.I am pursuing a hunch and it is bringing me surnames of interest to me.
Dr. William Webb officiated at the death of my g grandfather, Levi Fraser Bennington in April 1882.I believed Fraser Bennington was living in Decatur Co., near his in-laws, but probably north of Sandusky.I do not know where he is buried, but since he was a veteran, thought it might be the Lower Union Cemetery, as correctly or not it was suggeted to me he had a right to be buried in such a cemetery.
I have tried to find where Dr. William Webb practiced in Decatur Co. in 1882 but found no one by that name.I did find a William Webb in Bartholomew County, seemingly in or near Haw Creek.
Researching the Webb surname in Bartholomew County, brings up the name Branham.Until recently I thought Fraser's stepmother was named Sarah Brandon, but now believe it was likely Branham; she married his widowed father in Bartholomew County in January 1842; Fraser was born in January 1841.Fraser did not live with his family but grew up just east of Haw Creek Twp., west of Milford, in Decatur Co.Families related to his maternal grandmothers resided in this area and across the county line on the Haw.
So now I am wondering if Fraser, being in ill health, probably not able to work, and having little funds, and separted from his in-laws, may have been taken in by his relatives of his stepmother and/or cousins of his father somewhere on the Haw, and, thus, been treated by Dr. William Webb there. His death was just around the time Indiana required by law that doctors filed death certificates.I have never found a death certificate for him in Decatur Co.In 1882 his father, stepmother, and brother, Dr. Amos Marion Bennington, resided in Boone Co., IN, too far away to take him in, evidently.
Any leads as to the locale of Dr. William Webb appreciated.
