Hi Eunice, My mom (Juanita Watson) was a houseparent in the 60's-70's, (NOT 40's-50's) retiring in 1984. She had begun work in approximately 1966, in the kitchen originally with Mrs. Clark, then went to Toddlers, and was working in Senior Girls when she retired. The old cottage had been torn down by then and the kids were housed in the new buildings that they use today. Some of the houseparent's and staff's names that I remember are Mrs. Boyer (jr. girls), Tommy Lou Lewis, (toddler's and Senior girls), Mrs. Frost "Frosty" (nurse), Mr. & Mrs. McCloskey and fam (Superintendent), John Garner (also Super't), Shirley Dewitt (various depts). There are more, but it would take some thought. I don't think my mom was working there when you were a resident, but maybe some of these other names will seem familiar; I know Mrs. Boyer had worked there a very long time and was older. And yes, Mom was married. I recall that at the time she began to work there, she made $90 a month; it was a 'County job' and didn't pay much! I don't know if this is any help, but I hope it adds to the larger body of knowledge about ACCH.
