Mary, I've delayed replying due to pressure of work & having to reconfigure my computer.
It is hard to say exactly where my grandmother fits in with the Pattles.
(a) She had been dead a quarter of a century before I was born (my father was the second last of her children <b. 1882> and he married late in life), so I have only distant memories of what he told me.
(b) I have a somewhat incomplete & now well out of date family tree my father constructed about 70 years ago. In one section of this he has written:

Sir Elijah Impey(lived at 65 Wimpole St in 1702)
V
Edward Impey of Bath married
Julia, daughter of Chevalier de l'Etang of France
V
Major Hastings Broughton Impey
(Bengal Staff Corps) married Augusta, daughter of
James Pattle* (Bengal Civil Service)
V
Julia Augusta Pattle Impey
(My mother & eldest daughter of above)
married
General James Gathorne Cookson

* James Pattle (brother of Colonel Pattle,
9_th Bengal Cavalry) - battle of Meannee? fame, where my uncle William was killed.

(c) From the book on Julia Margaret Cameron (nee Pattle) I refered to last time, I have constructed a tree of the descendants of James Pattle. From this source, he had seven surviving daughters but the is no Augusta mentioned. However according to the book, Pattle had a disreputable brother (the Col Pattle mentioned in my fathers tree above).
So I wonder Augusta was in fact a daughter of this Colonel.

There are now an abundance of books on Julia Margaret - The Great Photographers Series:
Julia Margaret Cameron by Margaret Harker, Collins, is one I recently found, which has further info on the Pattles & also a References & Bibliography. One reference states James Pattle was Scottish, but little is known of him.

I would be happy to suply you with details of my grandmothers descendants and any other info on Pattles I come across in the future.
I still have photographs of her & letters she wrote to my father (if I can find them).
However typing a lot of material into the tiny window of Genealogy.com is laborious.
If you wish to provide a postal adress via email or write to me at:

I will photocopy what I have & send you.
George Cookson
